Metropolis (1927)

Fritz Lang's Metropolis is considered a pioneering and highly influential science fiction film, and was one of the first feature length productions in the genre. It was co-written by Lang and Thea von Harbou, on whose 1925 book it was based. Set in a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the rich industrialists, the son of the city master falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a saviour to mediate their differences.
